How It Started

From an idea to a calling

We've had the idea of Welcome Home Baby in our minds for several years. Our combined experience in hospitals showed us what works, what doesn't, and what parents really need. We noticed a significant gap in hospital care, especially with the rise in deliveries.

At the end of 2022, we decided to make our idea a reality. Moving away from bedside nursing to focus on educating and helping families without the usual time constraints was incredibly exciting for us.

We also recognized that many new parents were moving to Austin and surrounding areas for work, leaving behind their support systems. By starting Welcome Home Baby, we've been able to offer continued support, education, and care throughout the journey of childbirth.

Jenna Burwell

Co-Founder • Registered Nurse

With over 16 years as a Registered Nurse — from Intensive Care to Mother-Baby units — Jenna has cultivated a deep passion for equipping parents with the tools needed to bring a baby into the world confidently. She lives in the Austin Hill Country with her husband, four children, and a whole gaggle of animals. When she's not caring for families, you'll find her with her nose in a book, watering her many plants, or snacking on dark chocolate.

Saskia Markley

Co-Founder • RN & Certified Postpartum Doula

Saskia has been a Registered Nurse working in Postpartum and Labor units across America. Her experience with high-risk mothers and newborns led her to complete her training as a Certified Postpartum Doula. She specializes in lactation support, early sleep training, soothing techniques, and feeding schedules. A yoga and breathwork instructor, Saskia also specializes in infant and prenatal yoga. She grew up overseas in Europe and now calls Austin home.

Taryn McArthur

Certified Doula

For nearly two decades, Taryn has had the incredible honor of supporting families through pregnancy, birth, and postpartum as a certified doula. She believes birth isn't just about bringing a baby into the world — it's about nurturing an entire family. In North Austin, she lives with her husband, four kids, and two big lovable doodles. She coaches volleyball, bakes sourdough, and loves slow homeschooling days.

Caydee Thompson

Postpartum Doula & Newborn Specialist

With over a decade of experience as an in-home nanny and postpartum doula, Caydee brings a calm, compassionate presence during the early weeks at home. Her passion lies in supporting the whole family — helping older siblings adjust, establishing gentle routines for sleep and feeding, and making sure parents feel encouraged and seen. She's a wife, mom to three kids, and loves hiking and board games.

Sara Farmer

Neonatal ICU Nurse

Sara has been a Neonatal ICU nurse for almost seven years. While her passion lies within providing intensive medical care to sick and premature newborns, she also enjoys newborn education and breastfeeding support. She lives in Pflugerville with her husband, their son, and two fur babies. You can usually find them at a park, zoo, or aquarium — they love to travel and try new foods.

Emma Burwell

Certified Doula & Newborn Care Specialist

As a dedicated doula and experienced nanny, Emma brings years of hands-on experience supporting families through the early days. She's passionate about creating calm, organized, and nurturing home environments. After nannying for several years, she became a certified doula and now offers overnight care, early newborn sleep training, swaddling techniques, and feeding support. In her downtime, you'll find her rock-climbing, riding motorcycles, or traveling.
